₹2 Cr Profit, But Where Is the Cash?

₹2 Cr Profit, But Where Is the Cash without text

A business can report ₹2 crore in profit and still leave its promoter asking a surprisingly uncomfortable question:

“If we made so much money, why can’t I actually take it out?”

Because profit is not cash.

This is one of the most common financial blind spots in growing businesses. The P&L looks healthy. Revenue is climbing. Margins appear comfortable. Yet the promoter keeps hearing that there is “no cash” available.

There is no contradiction.

The ₹2 crore profit may already be sitting somewhere else in the business.

Your profit may be trapped

Consider where operating cash can disappear:

  • Receivables — customers have bought, but have not paid.
  • Inventory — money is sitting on shelves, in warehouses or in unfinished goods.
  • Expansion — profits are being reinvested into new locations, equipment or capacity.

    • Debt repayments — cash is being used to service or reduce borrowings.
    • Working capital — the business needs liquidity simply to keep operating.

So while the P&L says ₹2 crore profit, the bank account may tell a very different story.

And that distinction becomes increasingly important as a business grows.

    Profit → Cash → Capital → Growth

A promoter should not look at profitability in isolation.

The more useful financial question is:

“How efficiently is my profit converting into usable cash?”

That means tracking the movement from:

    Profit → Cash → Capital → Growth

A business generating strong profits but continuously absorbing cash into receivables or inventory may face funding pressure despite appearing financially successful. Conversely, better working-capital discipline can sometimes release significant cash without increasing revenue by even one rupee.

That is why financial management for a growing business cannot stop at bookkeeping or monthly P&L reporting.

You need visibility into cash conversion, working capital, profitability, capital allocation and funding requirements—together.

This is where a Virtual CFO adds value

At PGC, our Virtual CFO approach goes beyond preparing financial statements.

We help businesses understand where their money is going, what is driving profitability, where cash is getting locked, and what financial decisions support the next stage of growth. That can include management MIS, cash-flow visibility, working-capital analysis, profitability reviews, financial reengineering and decision-focused dashboards. Because a profitable business should not merely know how much it earned.

It should know where its cash is—and what that cash is doing for the business. Want better visibility over profit, cash flow and working capital?

Connect with Pitchers Global to explore our Virtual CFO solutions and bring strategic financial leadership into your business.
